Categories, collections and sharing explained

Categories and collections organise images in different ways. Use categories for the gallery’s browsing structure and collections for image sets created for a particular purpose.

Categories divide the gallery

A category is the section an image belongs to, such as Preparation, Ceremony or Reception. Categories help someone move through a large gallery.

New uploads may begin in Unsorted. The Rejects category is for images you do not want displayed elsewhere. Review the category before publishing rather than assuming every uploaded image is ready.

Collections gather images for a purpose

A collection can bring together selected images for delivery, proofing, a public selection, album design or another specific use. An image can be used in more than one collection while remaining in its category.

All Images is the default collection containing the available gallery images.

Use both together

For a wedding, categories might describe stages of the day. Separate collections might hold the complete private delivery, a smaller public selection and the photographs proposed for an album.

Choose the structure before sharing

  • Use clear client-facing names.
  • Keep the number of categories manageable.
  • Confirm which collection the shared client link opens.
  • Check that Rejects and internal working selections are not exposed.
  • Review category navigation on a phone.

Move images carefully

Moving an image to another category changes where it appears in the gallery. Adding it to or removing it from a collection changes the purpose-specific set. Check the client-facing result after a large reorganisation.
