Best practices for videos and slideshows

Videos and slideshows can add movement and storytelling to a Client Gallery. Choose the format and placement to suit the work, and make sure it does not make the photographs harder to reach.

Use a Feature Video deliberately

A Feature Video is presented prominently when a client enters the gallery. It works well for a wedding highlight film, a short story-led piece or a slideshow that introduces the collection.

  • Choose a strong opening moment.
  • Keep the film concise; approximately one to four minutes often works well for a gallery introduction.
  • Use a clear heading that tells the client what they are about to watch.
  • If the full film is long, feature a shorter highlight and provide the full version separately.

Place short clips within the gallery

Embedded clips can complement the surrounding photographs without interrupting the gallery experience.

  • Use them for short moments, behind-the-scenes footage or supporting details.
  • Place them beside the relevant part of the story.
  • A small number of purposeful clips is usually clearer than filling the gallery with video.

Use the Video Page for several short films

The Video Page keeps multiple films together rather than placing all of them through the image flow. This can suit separate highlights, speeches or short social-media edits prepared for your client.

Host long films externally

Workspace direct uploads are intended for shorter client films. They require Pro or Pro+, must be MP4 files, and are limited to 15 minutes and 20GB per file, subject to your remaining video-storage allowance.

For a full ceremony, performance, documentary or other long-form film, use a dedicated service such as Vimeo or YouTube. Add the hosted video to a Workspace website page and link that page to the relevant Client Gallery. Review the external service’s privacy settings because they are separate from the Client Gallery’s access settings.

Create a focused slideshow

  • Choose photographs that move the story forward and remove unnecessary repetition.
  • Match the pacing and music to the character of the session or event.
  • Use transitions and motion consistently.
  • Keep text concise and use it only where it adds useful context.
  • Preview the full slideshow before sharing it.

A slideshow of approximately two to five minutes can work well, but the right length depends on the images, music and purpose. Let the story determine the duration rather than trying to include every photograph.

Check the client experience

Before release, view the gallery as your client will see it. Check that each film plays, headings are clear, the gallery remains easy to navigate and any paid or downloadable video uses the intended price-list setting.
