How to zoom, crop and reframe images

Use the Aperture panel to adjust how an image is framed inside its layout aperture.

Open the crop controls

  1. Select the image on the album layout.
  2. Album Designer opens the Aperture panel on the left.
  3. Use the zoom control beneath the image preview to crop more tightly or reveal more of the available file.
  4. Drag the image within the panel preview to reframe it.

The adjustment is made in the Aperture panel rather than by dragging the image directly on the album layout.

Protect important content

  • Allow room around faces and other details when an image extends to a page edge.
  • Keep important content away from the edge of an aperture in a matted album.
  • Keep faces, text and other critical details away from the centre gutter.
  • Check borders and deliberately aligned elements against the photosafe guides.

Albums are finished as physical products, so normal trimming and the centre construction can affect content placed too close to an edge or gutter.

Check the complete layout

After reframing an image, review its relationship with the facing page and any nearby images. Wait for All changes saved before leaving the designer.

See Photosafe Guides for more guidance about page edges and the centre gutter.
