Photosafe guides identify areas where important image content may be affected by normal album production. The guides appear in Album Designer but are not printed in the finished album.
Keep critical content inside the guides
Keep faces, text, borders and other important details inside the photosafe area. An image can still extend to the page edge as a deliberate bleed, but anything important should have room around it.
Album page blocks are trimmed during production. A small amount of an edge-to-edge image is therefore expected to extend beyond the finished page. Content positioned too close to the edge may look cramped or be trimmed.
Allow extra room for smaller copies
If a design will also be produced as a smaller copy album, the same composition is reduced to a smaller page. Edge and gutter allowances therefore represent a larger proportion of the smaller design. Leave generous space around critical content rather than relying on a crop that only looks safe at the original album size.
Protect the centre gutter
The centre of a spread is affected by the album's page construction. In some page types a panoramic image is split at the spine; in others it folds or creases through the centre. Avoid placing faces, text or other critical details directly in the gutter.
Guides support—but do not replace—your review
Different design tools may display production guidance differently. When designing in Workspace, review the photosafe guides and any Album Designer warnings. Before ordering, inspect every layout yourself, including intentional bleeds and panoramic images.
